Caution: Not all ‘Bottled Water’ is the Same!

A word about ‘bottled’ water. This catch-all needs to be taken with a pinch of mineral salt because plainly not all bottled waters are of equal quality. Bottled natural mineral water should not be confused with bottled water per se, which mostly comprises treated tap water from municipal sources. Typically a bottled natural mineral water will contain most, if not all, of the following minerals: potassium, magnesium, sodium, calcium, bicarbonates, chlorides, sulphates, and silica.

These minerals are essential for good health. Calcium, for example, has long been known to promote healthy bones and prevent blood clots, while potassium boosts cell growth and muscle function. This is also true of magnesium, which helps to regulate muscle contractions, increases the efficiency of blood vessels and boosts the body’s transmission of nerve impulses. Sodium and other mineral salts help the body to rehydrate and for centuries bicarbonates have been used in varying forms as an aid to digestion. Sulphates also assist with digestion and act as a detoxifier for the liver. Silica, a known antioxidant, is beneficial for hair and nail growth and also reduces the risk of heart disease.
